Large root vase
Root vases are ongoing experimental series, exploring the concept of harmony between natural and man-made world. Roots represent ‘the natural aspect’ as a fundament on which the vase ‘the man-made aspect’ grows. These pieces may be understood as a metaphor of a phrase ‘mankind and nature are to live together in a harmony’.
This unique vase is handbuilt from highly grogged sand-like stoneware clay and is glazed on the inside to assure waterproofness. The root-like structure is inspired by exposed roots of exotic plants found in jungle or trees growing on rocks in high attitudes.
It is perfect to be used as a vase for fresh flowers, dry plants and branches, or left on its own as a sculpture.
Each vase is handmade in my studio and one-of-a-kind.
Please note that this vase is not perfectly symmetrical and straight. On the other hand, it is rather lively, organic and different to look at from each angle. Surface is left raw, with visible toolmarks. Small imperfections are celebrated as a part of handmade nature.
